ESCALON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
MECHANIC I
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, repairs and/or assists in repair of school buses, automotive equipment and other mechanic equipment of the District; does related work as required, which may include the driving of a school bus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
Repair, or assist in making repairs or adjustments to school buses, automotive equipment, trucks, tractors, air compressors, power mowers and other District vehicles
Operate electrical and other testing equipment
Complete or assist in major and minor overhaul of engines, transmissions and differentials
Replace, adjust, fit, grind, or perform needed work on bearings, valves, pistons, rings, and ignition, carburetion and brake systems
Operate electric and acetylene welding equipment to shape and repair parts
Arc weld
Lubricate and oil equipment
Repair tires, seats, floors and cushions
Repair and repaint dents and body damage
Keep simple records of time and materials used on each job, and help to maintain up-to-date equipment histories on all vehicles
Keep the bus garage and work areas in a clean and neat condition at all times
Assist in driver training
Perrforms other duties, as directed, consistent with the general areas of responsibility surrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of:
Methods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary for the repair and maintenance of automotive and other equipment; lubrication, ignition, cooling, injection and electrical systems; operation and care of gasoline and diesel engines and running gear.
Ability to:
Diagnose mechanical defects
Repair and adjust motors and equipment
Skillfully use the tools and equipment needed in automotive repair and maintenance
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Make mechanical repairs to a variety of motor equipment
Exert up to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
Reach in all directions (physically)
Meet schedules and deadlines
Keep and maintain records
Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures
Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
Read fine print
Hear and speak to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations
Body movement and manual dexterity to perform the duties described in an efficient manner.
Education / Experience:
Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
Experience: Journeyman level mechanical experience.
Possession of an appropriate California's operator's license (Class 2) issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles
Salary Level: 59 - Classified Salary Schedule

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
